Yesterday, I was one of many extras for the proof-of-concept shooting of Matt Lillard’s “Fat Punk”. Matthew Lillard was the actor in Scream, SLC Punk, and Scooby Doo. A local Seattle band, Whiskey Tango, was used for the film’s band. I’ll be doing an interview with them to find out how they got that gig and what the experience was like.
I got a reply to my craigslist ad. A drummer was interested. I heard some of his stuff from his previous band, and it sounded good. The catch? He lives 3 hours away. He’s planning on moving to Seattle around March or April for college. He said he just needs a place to stay and a job.
That previous sentence raises ten million red flags for me. Previously, I felt I was paying way too much because other members were either broke or jobless. I really don’t want to go down that road again.
So, I told him I’m going to keep looking in the short-term, and once he’s up in Seattle, to give me a call. Right now, I’d rather have a shitty drummer with a job than a great drummer that can’t pitch in.
That’s it for now. I’m still hitting up musicians and trying to write new tunes. I’ll let you know if anything exciting happens.
